Yes, they can fly!

Driving out the driveway on Fri. I had to stop to let a flock of turkeys finish crossing. I opened the window & heard lots of clucking, so I got out of the car. I looked up & there were at least 3 turkeys roosting in the trees right above me! I decided to try & take a few photos & see if any of them would fly--it's hard to stand with the telephoto lens pointed up at the sky!
Didn't have to wait too long before the wings started flapping!

It was a gloomy morning, so the color isn't great, but I was happy to capture this!

Great shots! We had turkeys where we lived in South Dakota. They don't fly for long distances...just up to the trees when they feel like they're in danger...like when our dog chased them! lol It's neat to see them fly, though...they're so big and their wing-flapping makes a lot of noise.

I have never seen wild turkeys before. Those are great photos the style of "Wild Kingdom". :>)

It's getting closer to Thanksgiving, so they're probably honing those flying skills! : ) Good photos Ann!

The only turkey's I've seen fly was to fly up on top of my car. And I was not amuzed at the scratches they left on it. They soon became the center piece for Thanksgiving.
