Yesterday it was Elephants

We've been doing a whole lot of nothing so far on vacation & that's exactly what we need!  I've finished 2 books already!  Having dinner with our student, Gaby & her family tonight so I should have lots more photos to share.  Hope I remember some food photos --have had some great meals, but forget to snap pictures until it's too late.

Arrival in Isla

Feeling pretty relaxed--haven't done much except visiting with friends & eat.  but that's been fun!.  I probably won't do many posts before we get home---it will be easier to organize my thoughts then.  I didn't get a photo of this towel sculpture before Alan took a hand towel!

A Highlight of Our Trip

will be getting to spend some time with Gaby, the student we sponsor through the Isla Scholarship program.  We had thought she might come home for a weekend, but found out this week she is home for break from college all week.  This picture was taken in 2009 when we had recently begun sponsoring her.  She is now in her second year of college and doing well.  Alan & I and the rest of her "team"  are very proud madrina & padrinos!

Ice Flow

I just made a quick trip ( up one day, home the next) to my Brother's to start the probate process for my Aunt & see tom's house now that they've been able to start moving back in! They live on the banks of the Merrimack river--this was taken out of a window so a little blurry from the screens!

The Maine Coast

We were up in Machias, Maine for a wedding a a few summers ago & took a day to drive around the area.  Was overcast & humid but still had a fun time.
These photos were taken on the drive to West Quoddy Lighthouse; the eastern most point in the US
I love all the contrasts in the photos.

Zunantunich, Belize

I have been thinking about these photos for awhile because a friend is going to Belize next month.  We were only there for a day on a cruise about 10 years ago, but we enjoyed what we saw!  We went to the ruins of Zunantunich  which are close to the Guatemalan border.

You take this hand cranked ferry boat across the Mopan river & then hop on transportation up to the ruins.  They are still excavating many of the ruins.

It was an overcast day; the scenery & greenery was lush.

And the climb was pretty intimidating!

There are 2 friezes that have been restored and you can see them fairly close up if you climb El Castillo--it's a "short" 130 foot climb!

from the top you have a great view of the surrounding area & into Guatemala.

After visiting the ruins we went to a restaurant in San Ignatio & had a typical Belizean meal that was delicious.
