Macro Monday

A few shots of butterflies taken at Magic Wings in Deerfield, MA.    This is a Rice Paper butterfly..

This is a Piano Key, I think.
And a Blue Morpho--on the underside--the other side of the wings is blue

Carnival!

We were lucky enough to be on Isla a few years ago during Carnival and will be again this year.  All of the dance troupes were great to watch --from the small children to the grandmothers!

Snow!

it snowed overnight--the best kind--only a few inches & it had stopped by the time I got up!
Two days ago we were walking around without coats--it was in the 50's...that's New England for you!
Even when there's snow on them, these trailing vines still look nice!

Recycling

Back before I joined Facebook, I had a blog on an Isla board.  When the board closed without warning, we all lost our blog posts.  I  then started this blog & have had it going for about 3 1/2 years.    But since joining Facebook, I have a larger audience so I am recycling a few old posts.  One day back in 2010 I happened to look out the window and saw this  fox crossing the driveway.

Grabbed my camera to take some photos

The dog was in the house so the fox was pretty safe to walk around the yard.

And imagine my surprise when I put the photos on the computer & saw that the fox was taking a $hit!

Saturday Single--Seso Loco

I was "talking" to someone this morning about Seso Loco & they had had pizza there last night!  Decided to find a photo of one of the many things I like to eat there!  Here's a yummy pizza!

Travel Thursday

I missed a few days this week so I am doing a few double posts.  I found this photo of the fisherman statue --see the bird on it?  Well, it's not part of  the statue!  I love that they put all the wires underground here so they aren't in all the photos now.  Now if only Aluxes wasn't in the background!

A Sign of Spring?

I went out in the sun room this morning & was happy to see a bloom starting on my hibiscus!  At least there has been enough sun out there to keep the plant going--hope it blooms before we leave for vacation!

Staying Warm!

Have been looking through many of my older photos  ( on the external hard drive)  looking for ones to post on my blog.  I am not going out much to take photos right now, but will make up for it when we get to Mexico.    This is 2 of many cats--Bubble ( orange long haired ) and Lucifer ( the black cat of course).  Each of them had a littermate that we adopted at the same time--Bubble & Squeak/ Lucifer & Gabriel!

I Wish I had Smell-o-vision--Again!

I posted this recipe a few years ago, but I think it deserved another  post!  I just put it together in the slowcooker for supper tonight.   It's definitely is winter around here( they are predicting 40's here this coming week though); there's a crispness in the air ; the woodstove is going and I've gotten out the crockpot! Am making Autumn Harvest Pork Loin & it smells heavenly! The ingredients sound like a weird combination, but it is delicious......
1 c. apple cider or apple juice
1 1/2-2 lb. pork loin
salt
pepper
2 large Granny Smith apples, peeled & sliced
1 1/2 whole butternut squashes, peeled & cubed *
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. dried thyme
1/4 tsp. dried sage
Heat cider in a hot skillet. Sear pork loin on all sides in cider. Sprinkle meat with salt and pepper on all sides. Place in slow cooker, along with juices. Combine apples, and squash. Sprinkle with brown sugar and herbs. Stir. Place around pork loin. Cover and cook on low 5-6 hours. Remove pork from cooker. Let stand 10-15 minutes. Slice into 1/2" slices. Serve topped with apples and squash.
* I use a bag of frozen cubed butternut squash
Enjoy again!
If you made it after the last time I posted it, let me know!

A Few of our Daily Visitors

Driving out the driveway a few days ago I saw quite a few turkeys on the edge of the trees
They scooted right into the trees as I drove by!
One brave soul decided to cross the driveway--they tend to stay in their flock & nor go out on their own--maybe he was leading the rest!

Snowy days

I love the play of the light on the snow and the trees in these photos--this is our driveway

Driving between Goshen & Litchfield--there are still some unpaved roads!

New Month, New Year!

The 1st 3 photos were taken on the same day --2/8/2012.  I go out & walk a few miles every morning starting at sunrise when we are on Isla.  Alan likes to sleep in so this gets me out of his hair!

I walk down the malecon along the Caribbean side of the island--I love that it keeps getting longer!

Every day the sunrise is different!

My photo  processed by Caribe on Canvas
One of my favorite photos from last years trip--enhanced by Caribe on Canvas!  I have this blown up  & hanging in my bedroom!  I hope I get some good shots this year & can get a few more made.
