An Afternoon with Friends

Yesterday we spent the afternoon with some friends that we know because of Mexico.  About 9 years ago there was only one Isla board ( Julie's) & I met Sandia on there before we ever took a trip to Isla.  Found out she only lived 2 towns away from us.....
Telling fish stories I'm sure! ( Randy, Brian & Alan)
Through her( Sandia) we have met other people in the area that she has introduced to Isla.  Two couples that we've met have an annual fish fry --with salmon that they catch on Lake Ontario--the weather was perfect yesterday so we went.
Patti & Sue--along wth their husbands, Randy & Mike --the hosts of the event!
For Carl--Sandia & me studying up a storm!

Randy at the grill

 Mike hard at work

Lots of delicious food  to choose from.  We had so much fun--Thanks again for thinking of us; hope to see you soon!

I Just Realized

That it's Oct. 22nd, so we have just 3 more months til we're on Isla!  Sitting here next to the woodstove--dreaming!  It's barely into the 40's today & there have been snow flakes around, so Isla looks very inviting!

Playing with Picnik

Not too much happening right now so I thought I'd play a little with Picnik.  This photo is enhanced using the HDR selection--I tried about 6 different choices, like this best because it highlights the ridges in the petals
Have never tried the before & after setting--so I did on this shot!  Enjoy!

Toad Lilies

These  toad lilies are still blooming in my yard!  We have had some frosty mornings & I actually saw a few snow flakes yesterday!
Sunday was a beautiful day--sunny & in the 60's...hope we have a few more like that!

Guess Who's Coming for Dinner?

Every night for the last week a small pack of turkeys has come into our yard about 5 pm
There must be worms or other things they like in the ground because they walk along pecking away!
 A close up
Then they stroll single file up into the woods...to return & repeat this another day!

Peak Fall Colors

The view from the fairgrounds--there's a colorful line of trees..
 Such a great view!

Good thing I went out a few days ago to take more foliage photos--it's been raining since last night, so lots of the leaves are now on the ground
Love these trees--the red color of the leaves just stands out beautifully!
Struggling to get out of the 40's today...I guess that fall is definitely here & winter is right around the corner!

Sotpped by the boat launch at Tyler Lake on my way home--much more quiet than a month ago!

It's A Book!

Last week when I stopped at the library,
I was given this children's book to read...."It's a Book"
I hope you will all look for this at your library--
I know you will get a kick out of it!
I didn't photograph all the pages --just enough to give you the gist of the book.....
It's a cute book & conveys it's message well......

The librarian wondered if they needed to put a warning on it because it says"jackass" in it...what do you think?

Where the Buffalo ( Bison) Roam--a new spot!

Our neighbor has fenced in a new area for the bison.  He bought the house & adjoining fields next to his house & has done alot of work on the property.  Put in a pond & fenced in a large area.
As you can see in this photo, the new area is right by road--one of the 2 "major" highways ( Route 4) that bisect Goshen.  Luckily, this section of road is wide with a shoulder, so passersby can stop & ogle the bison.

The herd keeps getting bigger--noticed a few new "babies" in the field today.  He ( the neighbor) says he can't keep up with the demand for the meat!

Red Velvet

Went to a favorite bakery & deli with some friends over the weekend--in Wingdale NY!  We went to a flea market & we usually stop at this place--Cousins Cafe---for lunch ........and never get past the bakery counter with out getting something to take home.
I purchased these 2 Red Velvet cupcakes & 2 mini cannolis ( those were eaten qiuite quickly!)  Was a surprise to see that they were filled with the cream cheese frosting too--YUM!
The sandwiches are great, too.  Didn't think to take a picture of what I had--The Route 22 special--ham, turkey, bacon, melted provolone with lettuce, tomato & onion on a hard roll with honey mustard & cream cheese spread on the roll--it was delicious!

Scenes from the Flea Market

Went to the Stormville NY flea market Sat. with a few friends--we try to go a few times a year--even if we don't buy anything, it's a fun day out with friends!
You can find all sorts of things there--$5.00 handbags...
Interesting T-shirts........
Colorful lounging pants.......
All sorts of stuff for $1-$3.....I always get new mittens & ear muffs
Some new things this year--not sure if it was for Halloween or just regular dance stuff!
All kinds of pickles
There is a farm stand in the fall--wonderful produce--radishes
celery....
Lots of winter squash varieties to choose from......

And John Deere paraphenalia......out in the country here!  It was a fun day--the weather was perfect & we went 1st thing in the morning ( 9am) so it wasn't crowded yet.
