Friday Funnies

One of the people that was in our group of 17  for our last trip to Isla Mujeres MX  ( 6/11) owns restaurant called Patty's Place.  The week after we came home Sandia went in & changed the specials board to read like this!

Buried in the Boxes

I'm trying to go through a box of my Aunt's stuff most everyday--it takes awhile because I stop & marvel at lots of things!   Like this sign.....
And here is the flip side of it!  Not sure how old it is, but would guess it's from the 50's or 60's--the airline doesn't exist anymore!
And then I found this clip--kind you use to hold bills or other correspondence--such wonderful finds!

Ch Ch Changes.....

When we were on Isla in January, I saw that they had painted all the columns and walls in the zocalo with flowers, birds & other animals.

I never posted any photos because Wayne ( islagringo) had done an excellent post on his blog about it.  I thought some of them were pretty.

So, guess what?  When we went to Isla in June they were all gone!  All the walls  are  now plain blue and the columns are an adobe color!  Is is giving people something to do?  Anyone know if they will be redecorated?

Peach Fuzz....

My garden is finally starting to grow!  I've been picking berries for awhile, but nothing else seemed to be producing.  After the hot weather, stuff is sprouting!

These tomatoes are among the many that have started.
Thought it was interesting how you can see the fuzz ( similar to peach fuzz? ) in these close ups!

Blueberry Picking

One day last week I went to Glastonbury with a friend to pick blueberries.  Above are the buckets that you hang around your neck to use when picking ( so much easier to have both hands free to pick!) and the flats you put them in after.
Needed the water when we came back in!
Loading up the tractor for the ride out to the picking area.
Some of the many bushes--all netted to keep out the birds & other critters--I have done this on a much smaller scale with cheesecloth & am actually getting some berries on my plants!

A view of downtown Hartford from up on a hill on the farm.
 Beautiful, big blueberries!
On the ride back to pay--I picked 6.6 pounds of berries!  Will be using them for a variety of things like muffins, bread, on waffles and, of course, for a batch of Jam!

Treasured Memories Thursday

I found this great photo when going through the stuff I got at my Aunt's.  It's from 1960.
Left to right:  My sister, Judie (13 yrs. old), my Aunt Kay, me ( lovely in red & pink?! at 12), cousin  Mary Jane, my Mom & brother Tom ( he's 5ish--not sure when during the year this was taken).  Probably taken at holiday time--we are wearing sweaters & I don't think we saw Mary Jane all that often--she lived in Trenton, NJ and at that time that seemed  pretty far away!

Mohawk Bison--some new photos

Some of the  bison have been moved to the field that is directly across the road from the end of our driveway!  So I'm carrying my camera all the time now!  Thought I'd share a few photos so you can see how the babies are growing!
Yesterday I watched this one large one rubbing his head on the ground in the dirt--guess that's the way they scratch!  Or get rid of bugs!  I've seen our cats do something similar.....
When he picked his head up, it created a large cloud of dust!  ( It's very dry here!)
I'll will be sharing more of these photos as time goes by!

Self Seeder!

This is Bee Balm and it hasn't grown in my garden in 3 or 4 years, but this year it popped up again.
We get lots of things growing that self seed or seeds are carried on the wind & show up!
A close up of one bloom.

Treasured Memories Thursday

Last week I picked up lots of boxes at my brother's that I had packed up last month when we emptied my Aunt's apartment.  Spent the morning today going through 2 of them.  It took awhile because I had to stop & read cards or look at photos!  It's amazing ( and wonderful for us) what she had kept.  So I decided to start  a treasured memory day once a week.
This is a photo taken around 1930: from the far right--my Mom, her mother, Hazel, holding my aunt Barbara
( she died at the age of 5), my Aunt Kay ( in the dark cloche) ; a few unnamed people and then my grandfather, Peter P. Carney.  The back of the photo says"  First delivery of milk by air--Pittsburgh Airport about 1930"

A Quick Post

Was just going to go outside & it started to pour!  We haven't had any rain in awhile so this is a blessing--I was going out to water my veggies!  It seems that everyday a new flower is blooming in the yard...here's a pretty yellow lily.  The black spot on the bottom petal is actually a perfectly round hole--obviously some bug liked the taste!

Pretty Garden

At the end of last week I went to see my Mom & my brother & his family---and to get more of the stuff we packed up at my Aunts last month.  The gardens and planters outside where Mom lives were beautiful and at their peak!  Above,  these zinnias  filled large planters in several locations.
The echinacea was near a fountain --a few views of it.

 Another color.
And this cool blue hydrangea--saw lots in bloom in the area!
