Qubano's

Yesterday before we had to back to Velasquez for the return of the fishing boats, Kathy, Deb & I went to Qubano's for lunch. Started out with watermelon water.....
Then on to a serving of Hungarian potoes, split between the 3 of us.
And topped it off with the Toston sandwich! Yum! The sandwich is unique, using pressed & grilled plantains instead of bread...

Just a Note

I am on a friends computer--so I thought I'd just update you on the Barracuda Bash.  The boats went out this morning & they will go out again tomorrow...so just postponed one day.  I have lots more photos that I will probably share once I am home.  We have WiFi where we are staying but it's not always working that well.   I may just bring my computer her!  This connection works great!
More later!

Shells & Glass.....

Yesterday we had a visit from Cecilia, the daughter of one of the people that works at SeaHawk.   We were sitting out on our balcony & she came to join us.  We have known her since she was a baby.  She had a lot of fun playing with my 1st batch of seaglass & shells.  Very strange this year---lots more glass than shells!
And I met Becky today!

On Isla Mujeres--a fun night and the promise of a great day!

Some friends won the La Gloria nglish School raffle last year --their prize was a 3 night stay at Ixchel 709--and we went over on their last night.  It was a gathering of old friends that  see each other on Isla and back in the states.
I was up today at my usual time --about 6 ish & went out shelling  & looking for seaglass--didn't find very much--Becky must have been out before me!  But the sunrise was beautiful!

Saw the La Tigrena statue with the sun shining through it--thought it was a good shot.
Probably won't blog every day, but will keep up!

Rafe vs. the Turkeys

Rafe is not a barker, but he went out on Sunday & decided to chase away the turkeys!  He did a great job!You see where he is in the driveway?  Well, that's where his invisible fence line is...he doesn't wear his collar anymore, but does great not going over the line.

He just stood at his line & barked--guarding his domain!
Most of them just flew off into the trees--probably to come out again after the dog has gone in the house

Macro Monday

I decided to combine Macro Monday and Isla.  This is a photo taken last year at Punta Sur.  I saw more butterflies then than I've ever seen there.

Stuck in the Snow!

I started out this morning to run errands that I hadn't gotten to do in the last few days--due to the snowstorm & the dogs diabetic episode on Tues.   looking down the driveway......
Alan's tractor--it gets moved out of the barn so Alan can put his truck inside when it's going to snow.  makes it easier for the guy to come & plow the driveway--it's 800 feet long!

As you all know, I live out in the country, in the wide ( wild) open spaces--lots of it (open space) where the snow can blow around like crazy.  I saw an accident on Sunday in this spot--the snow had filled in the street & some folks had hit each other.  Not too surprising.
These next 2 photos are on the street I live on, not 1/4 mile from my driveway, right by the field where the bison are.  Well, I ran lots of errands and about 2 hours I was on my way home.  I've never had trouble with the drifting snow in the 25 years I've lived out here.  But of course today I got stuck!  ( I should tell you I drive a Subaru Forester & it very good in the snow--this was just too deep.)
I didn't take any pictures after I got stuck--these were on my way out this morning---I got out of my car & went to the closest house--noone was home , but there was a shovel outside so I took it & started to clear the snow away from my tires.  Luckily a guy came up the street in the other direction shortly after I started & helped me free my car.  Strangest thing was--we live on a street with maybe 12 houses--not a through street ( unless you're going to Mohawk State Forest) and 3 more cars came up behind me while I was digging out my car!

Snow--Wordless Wednesday

OK--so a few words--the photos say it all--taken 3 hours ago 7 it's still snowing, but it has let up quite a bit!  Not plowed out yet, so we won't be going anywhere

Unique Use of Lawn Chairs

Looking through some older photos for some inspiration & came across thisone--taken in October, I think.  Was going through Kent, CT ( someone else was driving for a change) & saw this unique sculpture (? what else would you call it?).  I liked it!

Macro Monday

Decided to post a flower (hibiscus) from Isla for my Macro Monday shot.  Less than 2 weeks to go & I'm getting excited.  Better start packing....& pray for no snow ( at least on the day we have to get out of here)!

Out in the snow

It snowed yesterday...but it took all day to get less than an inch--overnight we picked up a few more.....Usually Rafe loves to go out in the snow, but he was being contrary  & only went out to pee & then was right back at the door!
Of course, I made him wait so I could get the camera!

This morning--the barn in the snow

Camera Lens.......Mug!

I saw this on FB  with a link to the site that sells them...thought it was neat & I wanted one of myself!  I usually do all my own present shopping--that way I get what I want!  I'm not a jewelry person at all & that's the extent of what Alan will buy!  A great place for photographers!

From the Photojojo website     "Both "Nikon" and "Canon" mug models are equipped with an easy to clean, heat preserving, stainless steel lining. Also, a lens-cap lid, rubber-grip focus and zoom rings and an auto-focus switch that actually switches (To top it off, the "Nikon" mug zooms when you twist its grip."

I have looked at other items on the site & have seen things I like!

Our flock of Turkeys

Yesterday I heard the telltale clucking of turkeys outside the back door & went to investigate.  They seem to be around more more this winter than past years.  And a much larger group.  Two of them were showing off, fanning their tails.  Captured a little on  video.

Macro Monday

I think these are self explanatory--Macro photography is about my favorite type to do.  It's amazing what you can capture with the right lens that your eye ( or at least my bad ones) wouldn't see otherwise!
