Violets are growing all over the lawn--will be there til someone cuts the grass!

Today is my husband, Alan's 60th birthday & I thought I'd share a photo from his college days--he went to Vassar in the 1st year that they admitted men---1970.  He's the one with the darker hair & striped shirt!

Saturday Single

Took this 2 weeks ago-- a few members of the   flock of turkeys that lives around here were walking across behind the house!  managed to get a photo of at least one!

Moby Dick's

Last weekend we went to the Cape ( Cape Cod) for my Aunt's memorial service & to take care of some paperwork for settling her estate.  We stayed at a place that I usually stay--the Bayside Resort--really like it, but please remind me not to ever go again when it's school vacation!  I forgot that Massachusetts ties their vacation week to Patriot's Day ( not the NE Patriots tho some might think so!) not Easter.   Had everything planned so couldn't change when I realized.  The small bar at the resort is called Moby Dick Pub.  Someone was at a bar in Pensacola Florida & saw the money pinned up evreywhere & they decide to do it on the Cape.

 Nobody knows exactly how much $$$ is actually up there, but it is definitely in the thousands!

Jellyfish

Went to an aquarium a few days ago with 2 of my friends--taking photos of moving creatures through the glass is not easy!

Macro Monday

In doing some cleaning I found this belt that I have had for years.  It is my Father's USArmy issue belt.  I used to be able to wear it with bell bottoms back in the 60's!  Thought I'd hand it down to my nephew...I showed it to Alan & he said"  We ( his company Torrington Casting) used to make those during WWII!

Hopefully when this posts, we will be halfway to the Cape.  This is the Sagamore Bridge and when we cross this, I know it's not too much further.  having a memorial service for my Aunt on Saturday and tying up a few loose ends with her estate.  And then back home on Sunday--lots of miles in 3 days!

Love the color of this tulip--it just bloomed in the back yard!

Woody Woodpecker

We have a few woodpeckers that live in our trees--and as long as they only peck the trees it's OK.  I stood under a few trees for awhile on Sunday to try & see & take photos of one!

later in the day we heard a loud thud & went outside & found one of them dead--it had slammed into the  large windows in the solar room.  And on  cheerier note, this is my 900 post on my blog!  Thanks to all of you who read & comment!

Out In the Field--Mohawk Bison

I had to run up to the library for a minute this morning & when I passed by, the bison were up by the fence.  Usually when I come back they've moved further away, but I was in luck today!

So I stopped to take a few photos--most of these are cropped--if you get too close they back away.

Guess I should have cropped a little more to eliminate the cow ( bison ) patty!

Rafe, taken earlier in the week.  He's hobbling around a little--twisted one of his back paws--lots of hazards out in the yard at this time of the year.  He's much better today!

Tulips!

This tulip was also blooming when I checked yesterday!  Seems like it's going to start warming up so there will be more & more flowers every week!  Can't wait!

 

Got My Wish!

Yesterday I said that I couldn't wait to see more flowers blooming--I didn't have to wait very long..I went out today & there were a few new things showing in my gardens--like these hyacinths!

And the blood root--these are so tiny...last year I didn't know what they were & someone that read my blog told me!

An Oldie

Looking through old photos looking for something to share & I spotted this one....Can't wait for it to warm up a little so more of  my flowers are blooming!

All I can say is finally--our new windows are going in!  Putting in the 2nd floor today & then will do all the trim!

center of a hibiscus flower that bloomed this morning--looks like something from outer space I think.

This is what the flower looked like at 6 am, then I went to look a little while later  & it had opened up!  Just needed a little sunshine!  ( Don't we all!)

It's my brother's birthday today...Happy Birthday, Tom!   No embarrassing photos today! See you in a few weeks!
