Best of Shows from the Fair

This is the Photography Best of Show. The person that took the photo is also the Draft Horse Comm. co-chair. She is an excellent photographer & did very well this year. She also won in several other categories.


Best of Show in Art. Don't remember who did this, but I don't think it was someone that I know. I know lots of the names & try to meet as many of the entrants as I can over the weekend & throughout the year!

A Little Girl & her Chicken......

The chairman of our poultry dept. at the fair has a young daughter that has a pet chicken. She's amazing to watch ; walking around with the chicken tucked under her arm! It almost looks like it's a stuffed animal--I'm sure many at 1st glance think it is! Once in awhile she will put it down & let someone else hold it, but most of the time she carrying it!
I just realized that my blogs one year anniversary just passed --on the 6th!

Some Blue Ribbons--the jam won a few!

Thought I would show you a few of the veggies that won 1st places at the fair. Our vegetable & fruit dept. entries were off this year because of the crappy summer we had. here's some beautiful crookneck yellow squashes. Many of these photos will end up in our fair book next year....

The best of show for the whole dept.--a watermelon--we don't have a very long growing season & most melons need a long time to grow....

Giant pumpkin--what can I say--there's a group of guys that are really into that--these can grow up to 50 lbs. a day!

And last but not least, my jams-- I won 8 -1st places, 3-2nd places & 1 3rd prize. Got totally shut out in the Photography, so was pleased to do so well in Canning!

A new food vendor this year called" The Chicken Smells Good" and the food is excellent! That's chicken kabob's on the grill...











Shredded pork for yummy pork sandwiches& they do great ribs too!
And apple crisp for dessert. My family that was visiting got a few servings to go yesterday for the ride home......

And a blooming onion.....We had a great day today--haven't heard any figures yet, but there was a nice crowd--I will try to be out earlier tomorrow to take some photos!

Too many choices...Guess I can try it all!

Excellent corn done on the grill....

Then more meat--andouille or a checken sausage with onions & peppers......

Goshen Fair 2009

Hopefully the crowds will be this big or more! The weather seems to be cooperating, so only time will tell! Will be trying out the card reader on the netbook over the weekend & if I have time will post a few photos during the fair....Will be seeing Sandia & JoAnne & Tim ( if they decide to come home from Isla!)
