Flowers in Machias, Maine

These are flowers that are growing in a labyrinth at the Univ of Maine at Machias. Our nephew got married there last month. One of the professors maintains the garden & I talked to her a bit before the wedding. She had quite a few varieties I'd never seen before

White Pass & Yukon railway, Alaska

Photos taken from the platform between 2 cars on the White Pass & Yukon railway out of Skagway Alaska

This is a video taken on the White Pass & Yukon railway--a ride that we did in June 2008. I stood out on the platform for most of the ride from Skagway, Alaska to the Canadian border--apprx. 1 1/2 hours. Was a little chilly!

Some Fair photos

Here's a close up of the 2 week old litter--the 4th from the bottom is the runt--it was so little!
In the pig barn, the sow and litter are always a crowd pleaser. This litter is only 2 weeks old. We are close to both the NY and MA borders, so we have many entries from both those states as well as CT.

A big draw is the oxen exhibit and pull. These Texas longhorns are an unusual site in my neck of the woods.

Took this while standing in line waiting for fried clams; just held my camera up in the air & took it. Our fair is on the small side compared to ones in the midwest, but for NE, it's average. On a good weekend we usually have about 50,000 people.

Original of the previous photo

Here is the original photo that I changed to enter at the Fair. Very few changes made--just took the color out of the background & did a soft focus around the subject.

Fair photos

These are the 2 winning photos that I entered in the fair this past weekend. The boy and his Charolais won in the Goshen Fair photo contest and the other won in computer enhanced. There are usually around 500 entries in the contest and no distinction is made between amateur & pro photographers--more often than not, the amateurs beat the pros.
