Dragonfly

Don't the wings look like stained glass?  Spotted this dragonfly out in my yard today!

talavera!

Over the weekend I went to the warehouse sale at Mayan Dreams here in CT.  They import Talavera & other Mexican pottery, glassware & tin items.  The merchandise is sold  through garden centers and catalogs like the National Geographic.  A few times a year the owner , Gregg has a warehouse sale!
( now we won't have to pay the admission fee to the CT Flower show to get more!)

I have been bringing home a few pieces from every trip to Mexico for awhile, but this way I can get some bigger pieces that wouldn't fit in my suitcase!
before I went I asked Alan how it would be if I brought home a Talavera sink--he nixed that idea & I didn't think there would be any anyway.  Lo & behold almost the 1st thing I saw was a sink!

An Afternoon at the Pond

On Sunday we joined a few friends to have a picnic & visit at the Coon Club. 

Fish were stocked so folks  could go fishing!

I'd never seen irises growing in the water--they were all around the edge of the pond!

After lunch, my friend Paula & I went walking around & spotted these pink lady slippers--quite a few of them in one area.  Then we got out the bow & arrows & shot a few rounds!

Nothing much happening so I looked back to last summer for a photo I hadn't posted.  Think this is one!

A little cloudy today...I was driving by Kelley's pond & noticed the reflection of the trees in the water, so I stopped & snapped a few photos!  Hope you're all having a wonderful day!

Stocking Fish

;Over the weekend we went to a hunting & fishing club that Alan belongs to & spent the afternoon with friends. When we 1st got there they were stocking fish--I don't think I've ever seen this before--thought I'd share!

Tomatomania 2012

 Today was the 1st day of Tomatomania  at White Flower Farm & I arrived, list in hand, about 10 minutes before they let people in to shop.  I learned  to go on their website beforehand & narrow down my choices!

 They have these great wagons for you to put you purchases on & the plastic containers to hold the plants ( that way you buy more).  They have over 100 varieties of tomatoes & also squash, cukes, eggplant & herbs.

 There was quite a rush right at the beginning & lots of people wandering up & down the rows trying to decide what to get!  There were lots of WFF employees scattered around to answer questions.

 Every plant had these great signs that described  the plant--how large it gets , how long it takes to grow, etc. I stayed for one of the lectures about growing tomatoes & other veggies-it was very informative!   Barb Pierson ( the nursery manager at WFF) gave the talk --- she's a friend of mine  & a fellow Islaholic!

Now to plant all I bought!

Spotted in the yard a few days ago--I'm up at my brother's for the weekend, taking care of more things dealing with my Aunt's estate--Alan is home with the pets!    have a great day!

Allium

I planted Allium for the 1st time last fall & they have started to bloom

I like the contrast of the purple color with all the green in the yard.

If you look at them real close you can see there's lots of tiny flowers!

And the best thing--they survived the trees falling all around them!

Fallen Tree

At 7 am this morning this old maple decided to fall.  We were very lucky that some of the branches only brushed the house--I saw them going by the 2nd floor windows!

I asked Alan & he said the tree was about 100 feet tall!  Here's what's left of the base!

Travel Tuesday

Back in 1972, after a year of teaching High School Home Ec, I decided teaching wasn't for me & thought I would do a little traveling with one of my friends for a few months.  The above photo was taken at one of our first campsites--all the comforts of home, right?  A 2 man pup tent & enough room in the car to sleep if it rained!

Another campsite along the way--probably a month or so into the trip!  Despite the trials & tribulations on the trip-(-I never spoke to my friend again after we got home) I think this is when the travel bug bit me!

Apple Blossoms

We have quite a few ( maybe 10+) apple trees on our property--all out in the front pasture.  Many are in bloom now; hope we get some apples out of them this year!
