If Wishes were Horses..

This week Ree Drummond Pioneer Woman is having a photo assignment with horse pictures. I like to enter if I have or can take some photos. None of the horses in our area are out & about yet so I went looking on my computer for some older shots.

These were mostly all taken on the street where I live. There are several boarding stables here & and used to be a string of polo ponies too ( they got moved to FL a few years ago.) All but the draft horses were taken with a film camera.

 On wobbly legs!
Another perspective of the previous group of horses.
Happened to be out one day & saw this beautiful group of draft horses.
I couldn't get the rhyme out of my head, so I found the words....

"If wishes were horses then beggars would ride,

If turnips were swords I'd have one by my side.

If 'ifs' and hands were pots and pans

There would be no need for tinkers hands"

Bike Ride Anyone?

I drive by this sculpture(?) quite often & decided to stop & take a picture today
It's on the front lawn of the house of a landscape designer--it has miniature white lights on it.  It's probably hard to tell but it is covered in ivy--hopefully in a few months it will be green & lush--it didn't escape the hard winter either!

Quilts!

I spent part of the day yesterday at our State ( CT ) Fair Association meeting.  One thing that is done at the spring meeting is the winning quilts from all the fairs around the state are brought to the meeting & judged against each other.
These are just some of the beautiful quilts that were entered.  We were told that they only had about half the number of quilts that were entered last year!

Aren't they beautiful?  I can only imagine the countless hours that are put in to turn out these masterpieces!
 close up of one....

More Home on the Range

The neighbor's bison were up by the road this morning so I hopped out of my car to get a few photos.
I found out they're a little skittish....When I got about 5 feet away they moved further back in the field
You can see the area they are in in this photo is pretty chewed up!  They stay out all winter, through all the snow & cold weather.
So, last week they started fencing in the field that is across from the end of our driveway.  Don't know yet if they are getting more or are doing it just to have another place to move them to.  The field has been used for growing hay in the past. ( the snow in the photo has melted!)

Kent Falls, Kent, CT

I decided to go for a short ride to see what Kent Falls looked like in the snow.  I wasn't disappointed!  The falls are a short walk from the parking lot and I had the park to myself.
I love coming here in the spring & summer & climbing up to the top of the falls--there are steps and a pathway all the way up.
Next year I might even come back when there's more snow on the ground!

I saw this mural yesterday on my way to the grocery store.  Stopped to take a few photos, thinking I could try to stitch them together-( this is 3 photos combined)-here is the result!

A House in the Woods

A few days ago I went out to run errands & take some photos.  Hopefully, now that the snow is melting there will be some interesting opportunities  to photograph!
I spotted this fog bank hovering over this house & quickly pulled off the road.  Once I got home I decided to play around with the picture a little.  The 1st one is the original.
The second is with a little color boost
And the last is with a Holga B & W effect--I like them all!

Decluttering......

I am a saver.  I read alot of magazines & 2 newspapers a day.  I have always collected recipes and articles that interested me.  It a hard habit to break-- much of what I have saved could now be found with a few clicks on the internet!

So I decided I need to start throwing stuff out!  But going through it all is a daunting task!
I am making headway.....but as you can see I have 30+ years of stuff to go through....I stop & look & reminisce ...there are pamphlets from college ( I graduated 41 yrs. ago!) and lots I collected when I was teaching ( I was a Home Ec teacher for awhile), but I'm determined to clean out at least half of what I have!  Wish me luck!

Waitng for the Tourists...

These guys were usually seen in the evenings, up and down Hidalgo, accompanied by a drummer & performing while people were dining.  During the day, it seems that they wait for the tour boats  filled with day trippers from Cancun.
They would wait right where all the people off the boat have to walkto get out to the street....along side of Vaelaquez' restaurant!
Showing off his wingspan!

Miss Cleo

Stopped by a friend's house this morning to visit & see her new kitty, Cleo. She is adorable!
She has one tiny patch of white on her chest ( you can just see it in this photo) and she loves to play.  Adopted from a shelter...she's about 3 years old...quite different from my 16 yr. old--it was fun to play with a kitten!

Surveying His Domain

Another look at all the snow!( Photo taken 3/9/11)    Rafe likes to go sit outside & look over "his" property!  And then bark at any intruder ( real or imagined)!
And an update on Rafe--I'm happy to report he climbed the stairs to the 2nd floor in the barn & in the house over the weekend...hasn't done that in a few months...we're glad he's feeling better & better!

Just Uncovered...Finally!

The snow has finally melted around these beautiful snowdrops!
Thought I'd add this photo so you could see there still is lots of snow around--the place  where it was plowed, the snow banks are probably 5-6 feet tall!

Bobo's

Decided I should get back to my Isla photos...probably because it's been so gloomy & rainy here that I just want to look at sunshine!  One of the 1st nights we were on Isla we went to Bobo's & the meal was great!
It's on Matomoras right across from Olivia & Capt. Tony's.  A  small place with a few stools inside & a couple of tables on the street, but everything could easily be packed to go.
Brian is the very personable owner!  We had burgers and fish & chips this time & went back later in the trip for more!

Even the kitties along the street are drawn in --I'm sure the smell of fish cooking brings them from all around!

Old Friends & New + Isla=Priceless!

We usually go to Isla approximately the same time every year because of the Barracuda Bash--this year was no exception.  We were also lucky enough to have our trip coincide with some friends wedding.  The wedding was held on the pier behind Velasquez restaurant and lots of us got our photo taken when the sun was setting.  Thought I'd share a few with you
All of these couples live in MA or CT( within 1 hr or so of us) & with the exception of one, we have met them all on Isla!  Above, Kathy & Rick--he was the winner of the Barracuda Bash this year.
Alan & me--don't have very many photos of myself, so this was nice!
Our friends, Lou & Deb.  We introduced them to Isla last year & they loved it & came back again this year.  Deb & I both had Hortensia make us dresses to wear to the wedding!
New friends Kris & Jon--those of you that frequent the MyIsla board here's a little story.  Jon posted back in Dec. or Jan. that he'd been to Isla 20 years ago & was going back  in Jan  ( he's capeguy).  Someone posted back about where did he live etc.( Mr Limpet )  Turns out they knew each other, having worked together on the Cape in HS!  Small world--they both were on Isla at the same time in Jan & caught up!
And the happy couple --Steve & Rosie
